When I received my first stage report from DJM for our new build, I immediately compared it with my private inspector’s report. At first, I was frustrated because it seemed like DJM had missed several defects. However, after doing some research and speaking with the DJM office and their surveyors, I realised I had misunderstood their role. Their scope is very different from that of a private inspector. I think many people building for the first time make this same assumption and expect DJM to be responsible for items that don’t actually fall within their scope. Once I understood this, I could see the value of what they were assessing. In fact, their role in our build turned out to be even more critical than the private inspection. They identified significant compliance related issues that were far more important and ensured the builder addressed them properly. Katrina from the office was extremely responsive throughout the process. I genuinely appreciate her patience and prompt replies to all our questions.
