Previously had paid in full another engineer who overkilled our design with over 100 contiguous piling and multiple columns in the basement overblowing our budget by $400K when placed for tender - when Builders told me this was an overkill - I started doing my research. I found Mark from United who become our 2nd structural engineer - he was empathic in his costings and really did an amazing job by utilizing the existing basement rooms to eliminate a few columns, gave us extra ceiling height by making it a flat slab instead of the original beam slab, suggested we use Rediwall instead of blockwork for our lift shaft and identified minor inconsistent RL's on both the stormwater and Architectural plans which would have saved us a tonne of headaches during construction.
